Choose an image (sculpture or realistic painting) to analyze with the follow elements;
- Lines
- Concrete lines – exist
- Implied lines – related to the movement of your eyes across the picture plane
- Division of the format with lines
- Axis, lines of symmetry (— • — • — • — • — • — •) vertical, horizontal and diagonals
- Shapes
- Positive/negative
- Value
- Texture
- Colour
Analyze with next principals:
- Balance (visual weight).
- Dominance (emphasis). Focal point (very small area where the movement of the eye goes around and in and out) — size/ contrast / placement —
- Movement in a trace paper describe the movement of your eye.
- Proportion — division of the format / repetition or format proportion /sizes / similar shapes (find and relate different proportions of the shapes)
- Variety
- Economy (less is more)
- Harmony — unity / repetition / pattern —
- Rhythm (visual beat) repeated elements (lines, shapes, colour, texture)
